B.Sc, Grad. Dip Psychotherapy. IACP
Ever since I was young I knew I wanted to work in a job that had meaning and purpose. I always had a passion for understanding myself and the people around me, the world around me. That focus served as a navigation that has led me here. I initially obtained a Degree in Mathematical Physics and then went on to obtain Graduate Diploma in Humanistic & Integrative Psychotherapy. I have explored many philosophies and schools of thought, practiced Mindfulness Meditation and got to know myself and the world around me in a deep and meaningful way. As part of my training to become a Therapist I underwent personal Therapy throughout and after, and it has been powerful for me in many ways. It is my own philosophy that there is nothing we can't heal or overcome, by looking within and with a Therapist, Guide or Mentor, walk the journey towards Integration and Self Actualisation. In a culture of avoidance, emotional distance, addiction, aggression, hate, focus on looks and status, consumerism and a total loss of touch from who we were meant to be as people, we must come home to ourselves. I have found Psychotherapy to be a powerful way of doing this.
I graduated from NUI Maynooth with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematical Physics in 1999. I the went on to graduate from Turning Point and DCU with a Graduate Diploma in Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy in 2007. Since then I have worked in Private Practice continually, going on to open an office here in Gorey in 2013.
There are many ways to improve our lives and for us to feel better. It is always my goal for my Clients to achieve more joy, more feelings of connection, to work in a job they love, to earn enough money to live a good life, to find supportive and loving relationships, to walk away from toxic substances, behaviours, people. And more. There are many ways to approach the changes people want to make. Everyone is different. Each Client will want and value different things, and prefer different ways of achieving these goals. That is why I chose to be a Integrative Psychotherapist, which basically means I use many different approaches to facilitate the end result being achieved. No one size fits all. I value getting to know each person who comes to sit with me, I value them and deeply listen to what it is they want and need. It is more my approach to empower each person to become their best self and to live their best life.
I continue to learn and update my own skills. The philosophical framework I work from is Rogerian/Humanistic, Existentialism, Psychosynthesis and Gestalt. I also love Jungian and Psychoanalysis frameworks and of course Neuroscience. Currently I am learning Internal Family Systems Therapy which has massively effective results for my Clients. I use toys, stones, Archetypes, dreams and anything else that helps with the deeper more creative aspects of ourselves!
I hope this page can give you a little sense of who it is you will be working with if you choose me as your Therapist. Of course you can ask me anything you need to in addition to this.
I truly look forward to hearing from you,
